5 situations when you can run away from a job interview

5 situations when you can run away from a job interview

Posted on 23/09/202223/09/2022 By Lucas Noah No Comments on 5 situations when you can run away from a job interview

There are situations when an interview doesn’t always go according to plan, and you never know what you’re going to face. Sometimes even 10 minutes is enough to understand that this job is not an option. But the company is good, the environment is pleasant, the reception is welcoming… In that case it is better to wait until the interview is over and give a reason for your refusal in a civilized manner.

However, if you understand that there is no point in enduring, wasting time and nerves, it is better to stop the conversation and say goodbye to the employer.

layboard.in tells you when you can and even should run away from a job interview

  1.  They ask you to leave your passport as collateral, credit card information, and personal data.

Here it is simple: your future employer is almost certainly a scammer. Or he just doesn’t understand what a “stressful interview” is. Everything you need from your data is already on your resume – full name and contacts. It is better to run away from requests, let alone demands to provide something more, so as not to fall into the trap of scammers.

  1. The terms change as the interview progresses

Rarely, but rarely, does it happen when an employer embellishes a position to attract more applicants with a good resume. A high salary, ideal working conditions and hours, and responsibilities relevant to your specialty are just a dream offer. But at the interview, the recruiter backfires.

It turns out that the salary equals all employees, and just yesterday changed the schedule, and you will have to combine two positions at the same time for one rate or travel on business trips. If you are happy with this option, it’s fine to work, but you know that this is a bad sign and it will be even worse in the future. No, leave and don’t look back. The employer must be honest with the job seeker at all stages of the recruiting process (as well as the job seeker). After all, starting a working relationship with deception is a bad sign.

  1. Before the job interview, the HR manager instructs you on how to talk to your supervisor

You come to a serious company. A solid office, everything seems fine. And then the HR manager takes you under his elbow and confidently tells you that the boss does not like it when people do not look him in the eye, use the word “project” and stop talking before they hear the next question. This is not a respectful attitude to the employees of their company.

Just imagine: if an employer meets you like this now, what will happen when you sign the contract? Believe me, an interview has nothing to do with a look-see: you, too, can and should assess the potential manager – understand whether the position suits you or not.

  1. You and the appointment were forgotten about

You came to the appointment exactly at the appointed time, but the person with whom you made the appointment is not there. The secretary did not offer you a seat and asked you to wait for 15 minutes, then another 10 minutes, then another “exactly 5 minutes”. And an hour later she says you need to come back tomorrow. This attitude is clearly irresponsible and disrespectful. Do you really want to work in such an atmosphere?

  1. You just don’t like what’s going on.

You can do that, too. If you feel like something is wrong, even if you can’t articulate exactly what it is, leave anyway. You probably don’t want to work here, and wasting time on weird interviews is not productive.

Here are a few examples of people who have experienced similar situations

Example 1. Jasika chose the company mainly because of the personality of the manager she wanted to work with. But on her first day in her new job, she found out that the manager was leaving the company after a week (this is an example of deception, which is most likely welcome in the company and worth leaving)

Example 2. On her first day at work, Jules was surprised to find out that her workplace would be in a different office which was not as cozy and comfortable as the one where she was interviewed and that she would have to spend much more time to get there than she was willing to.

( not an arrangement on the part of the company)

Example 3: Only when Christopher received the employment contract to sign did he find out that the salary was less than half of the monthly income he had been promised at the interview, and the rest was bonuses, the payment of which was not guaranteed. The level of monthly income without bonuses did not suit him at all.

( the most common case that gives a call to realize that it is urgent to leave this company)

Example 5. Lana got a new job at a company that she had dreamed of joining for a long time, and within the first month, she was disappointed. She did not like her coworkers and the way they interacted with each other and her. She felt like a stranger and realized that she would never fit in here.

(It’s quite normal when people don’t fit in and it’s not worth tolerating!)

The main thing to remember is that you don’t owe anyone anything. If you don’t like something, you have every right to get up, apologize, and leave. And if the situation is absolutely awful, you can forget about the rules of etiquette – just leave.

Work should be fun, and the interview is a great chance to see if your expectations can be met. Don’t worry – the chance of getting into a creepy job interview isn’t that great.

Layboard advises that before you negotiate an interview, carefully read all of the required features for the position and learn more about the company.

It is possible that this company is not serious and changes employees every month because of little things: one of them dresses strangely, another speaks slowly, the third one does not stack files properly. To prevent awkward meetings and conversations, read more about the place where you plan to work.

We wish you success in your search!
