Shared with You is a new feature in iOS 15 that allows you to share photographs, videos, links, and other content with anyone, anywhere. It lets users share files and information from apps like Safari, Photos, and Notes with others. This article explains how to use the “Shared With You” sharing option in iOS 15 to share photographs and links.
In Safari, how does “Share With You” work?
We frequently send links to intriguing web pages and articles to our pals. You come across something interesting, such as a new healthy recipe or local news, and you want to share the link with someone you know.
Previously, the receiver had to launch the Messages app, scroll through the discussion to find the link provided, and tap it to open it in Safari. Things are a lot easier now that “Shared With You” is available.
Let’s imagine I get an email with a link to a fascinating article. It will be instantly added to Safari rather than fumbling around in the Messages app. It does not request permissions; however, you may manage them from the settings menu.
The link will display under the “Shared with You” header on the main page. To open the link in a Safari tab, simply tap on it. It’s that simple.
Not only does the functionality operate in iMessage, but it also works in other messaging programs. All links are scanned and collected by iOS 15, which then shows them in Safari.
In Safari, you’ll see the name of the person who shared the link underneath. To access the chat in the Messages app, tap on it. To submit a reply in a pop-up, tap and hold, or delete the link to clear the area.
On a sea of links in the Messages app, how do you find the link again? Simple. Long-press the link to reveal the pin option. These pinned links may now be found in the Messages search menu, Shared With You, and the Details view of the discussion.
How Does the Photos App’s “Share With You” Work?
When someone shares a photo with you, it will display in the Photos app’s new “Shared With You” area, which is found under the “For You” option. It could be a picture from the Messages app or another messaging app.
In the Messages app, you’ll see a download icon next to the image. To download and save the image to the Photos app on prior iOS versions, you had to touch on it.
You no longer need to download it at first. To see all shared photographs, open the Photos app and go to the “Shared With You” area of the “For You” menu. The sender’s profile image is shown at the top, as shown in the screenshot below. By tapping the same, you’ll be sent back to the Messages chat where the image was originally seen.
A link at the bottom of the image that reads “Save Shared Photo” is not visible in the image, but it allows you to save the photo so that it is no longer linked to the original message. The option will disappear when you save the image.
If you have a habit of deleting old messages, you might wish to keep the snapshot. The photo will be lost if you erase the message before saving it.
You may quickly store files that you receive in the Messages app for later use.
How to Directly Share Photos from iCloud
Instead of sharing the actual photo, you may now share an iCloud link using iOS 15. Long-press on the photo you wish to share with someone in the Photos app. Select “Copy iCloud link” after tapping the “Share” button.
Make sure “iCloud Photos and Shared Albums” is enabled under “Settings -> Profile Picture -> iCloud -> Photos” if you don’t see the iCloud connection option.
Any messaging program may be used to distribute the produced link. You can easily cease sharing the photo if you believe it should no longer be shared or was shared incorrectly. Open the Photos app and go to the “For You” menu to find the photo you shared. To find the “Stop Sharing” button, tap once to open it and then pick the three-dot menu icon.
Completely disable “Shared with You”
Yes, you can turn it off for all apps or for specific apps. “Settings -> Messages -> Shared with You” should be open. You may change this setting for the entire system or for specific programs like Music, TV, Safari, and Photos.
F.A.Q
- Why isn’t “Shared With You” shown in Photos?
Many individuals are reporting this on social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter. Some users are unable to utilize it, however, this is likely to be resolved in future iOS releases.
- When do the iCloud Photos sharing links expire?
The link will remain active for 30 days before expiring on its own. After that, the recipient will receive a “Failed to Retrieve” notice. Then a new connection would have to be created.
Final Thoughts
This is a useful feature that would make many people’s life simpler. However, the implementation could have gone more smoothly. Shared With You is an app that collects and shows useful data in a variety of apps. The Safari browser has access to all links, and the Photographs app has access to all photos.
